Trust, Create and Challenge: Expolanka partners with SG Holdings

In June 2014, Expolanka stepped into a new era in its corporate history. The company struck a crucial partnership with SG Holdings after the Japanese conglomerate acquired a majority stake in the Expolanka group. This far reaching and strategic deal would see both parties working towards growing and strengthening Expolanka’s position in the global logistics industry.

SG Holdings, the holding company for the Sagawa Group, is a leading logistics company in Japan with a presence in the Asian region. The company owns 24 locally-incorporated subsidiaries in 14 countries outside Japan, including China, Vietnam, and Singapore. The group has identified strengthening their overseas operation in the area of global freight forwarding as one of their core pillars.

Expolanka and SG Holdings marked their strategic partnership at a gala ceremony complete with cultural dance acts that celebrated Sri Lankan and Japanese cultures. Nobuhito Hobo, Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Hon Faizer Mustapha, Deputy Minister of Investment Promotion – Sri Lanka, Hon Manabu Sakai, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism – Japan, Eiichi Kuriwada, Chairman/President of SG Holdings Japan, Nobuaki Kondo, Chairman of Expolanka Holdings PLC, Hanif Yusoof, Group CEO/Director, Expolanka Holdings PLC and a host of other distinguished guests were present at the occasion.

Elichi Kuriwadaa, the Chairman SG Holdings Japan, said that their international transportation services will further broaden by unifying Expolanka’s freight forwarding global network with SGH Group’s operation bases in Japan, East Asia and ASEAN region.

Mr. Kuriwada also met President Mahinda Rajapaksa during his visit to Sri Lanka.
