Foolish the doctor who despises the knowledge acquired by the ancients  ~Hippocrates

launch-5120 years ago, Bio Extracts (Pvt) Ltd., a subsidiary of Expolanka Holdings PLC, launched the Baraka range of black seed products, with the intention of achieving excellence by providing herbal remedies to the international market. After two decades in existence, Bio Extracts and Baraka have continuously been the trendsetters in the Sri Lankan Ayurvedic market.

On the 22nd of August 2013, Bio Extracts unveiled its new brand logo, total packaging and a renewed brand strategy for Baraka. Aptly, the new logo depicts a graphic of the flower that bears the black seed, which has been known for its medicinal value from ancient times.

The black seed, also referred to as Kalonji in some parts of the  world, is used by various cultures around the world as a natural healing aid and a supplement to maintain good health. This seed is a complex sustenance of more than 100 compounds, a combination of fatty acids, volatile oils and trace elements that is believed to contribute to its effectiveness as a healing agent.

The extraordinary healing powers of the black seed have been known for centuries in the Middle East and Africa. The ancient civilizations recognized the importance of the black seed as a medicine. They included the Roman Empire, in which the black seed was named with the Latin word “Panacea” meaning cure all. Furthermore, the Greek, physician Dioskorides used black seed to treat headaches, nasal congestion, toothache and intestinal parasites.

The black seed oil is beneficial due to its content of over a hundred components such as aromatic oils, trace elements, vitamins and enzymes. It contains 58% of essential fatty acids including omega 6 and omega 3. These are necessary for the forming of the Prostaglandlin E1 which balances and strengthens the immune system giving it the power to prevent infection and allergies and control chronic illnesses. In the recent past, the seed has been subjected to intensive research, which has revealed its healing values to the scientific community.

The Chief Executive Officer of Bio Extracts, Mr. Riza Bahardeen on the re-launch of Baraka says,
