Leading Asia’s carbon neutral freight & logistics companies

As an organisation with a commitment to both the environment and to innovation, we are extremely proud of Expolanka Freight Ltd recently becoming Sri Lanka’s first-ever, and one of the first Asian, CarbonNeutral® Freight & Logistics Company.

Fact Box:

  • What does Carbon Neutral mean?

Used in the context of carbon dioxide releasing processes, associated with transportation, energy production and industrial processes, Carbon Neutral means achieving net zero carbon emissions by balancing a measured amount of carbon released with an equivalent amount sequestered or offset, or buying enough carbon credits to make up the difference.

  • What are Carbon Credits?

A Carbon Credit can be defined as “a certificate showing that a government or company has paid to have a certain amount of carbon dioxide removed from the environment”. We use these to neutralise the carbon emissions that we cannot eliminate from our business operations.

  • Why is Carbon Neutrality important?

Carbon Dioxide is a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming and climate change . Neutralising our carbon footprint means that Expolanka helps in the fight against these.

  • What are the other benefits from being Carbon Neutral?

Beyond helping to save the environment, reducing the Carbon Footprint of a company makes business sense by reducing waste and expenditure on energy and other business processes.

Social responsibility does take top billing in our operations as we contribute to reducing global warming and taking a lead in living and doing business by example and concern for environment. As we also focus on sustainability, Expo Lanka Freight will look at the recommendations that suggest mitigation and monitoring strategies be enacted in the future to reduce the organisational footprint –  Expolanka Freight CEO Jagath Pathirane

Working with the Carbon Consulting Company, the carbon footprint of Expolanka Freight Ltd was calculated and verified according to the strict international guidelines and standards to ensure that the Carbon Neutral certification, which was issued by the CarbonNeutral® company, complies with standards set by UK government, the British Standards Institution and other international bodies. Following the footprint calculation, Expolanka Freight Ltd neutralised its carbon footprint for the year 2011 by purchasing the necessary carbon offsets to make the carbon footprint of its operations zero.

We see the CarbonNeutral® status of Expolanka Freight as part of the wider picture of Expolanka’s long-standing goal of being a responsible corporate citizen. To find out more about the many green activities we contribute to, visit our Facebook page.
